How to extend the life of your glasses?

Using both hands to wear and remove our glasses may not be as dashing as a one-hand maneuver, but we will avoid loosening or misaligning the frames especially around the earpieces. It will also cause the frames to be out of fit to our face.

Steer clear of glasses cleaner with ammonia or alcohol in it. Note that the harsh chemicals can damage the coating on our lenses. Instead, gently wash eyeglasses or sunglasses using a solution of diluted dish soap and our fingers. Dry the lenses with a microfiber cloth designed for that purpose and never use ordinary tissues, paper towels, or other wood-based materials, which can cause scratches.

When your shades or specs get wet or sandy at the beach, resist the temptation to swish them clean in the surf or on a towel. Tiny crystals of salt or sand could scratch your lenses. Give them a rinse with bottled drinking water instead.

Never leave your glasses exposed to hot conditions. Don't leave eyeglasses or sunglasses inside your car on a warm day, for example. Most of today's frames are typically made by pouring liquefied plastic into a mold, so if they get too hot, they might become distorted by the heat.

Avoid wearing your glasses over your head. Though it might be convenient or look stylish, you risk stretching them out of shape. Natural oils from your hair and scalp can smudge the lenses.

Always store your glasses in a hard case. You've heard it before, but this can cause serious scratches. Invest in a hard case to keep your specs secure if they come in a soft case.
